Well it would be interesting to accuse me of trying to steal the site... since I don't own the domain name that I suggested moving it to :D.

As for it getting shot down, I'm sincerely hoping that being able move the photos and message board archives over will help at least generate discussion.

At 5000+ members I think DCS has SERIOUSLY outgrown MSN Groups. I'm not interested in commercializing it or anything of the sort, my only hope is to generate more growth. The more members we have the more people we can help, and in turn, they can help others.

IMHO that is the purpose of DCS. So at least we can generate some talk. I'm a little surprised a manager hasn't responded yet, but hopefully, that means that there is some discussion going amongst them. Anything is a start!

I didnt, and technically dont own any domain either, didnt in either of my proposals.

Things that the divorcesupport.com domain was purchased not only for chat but also for the possibility of a future move.

However some seem to think that MSN will not release the MB or Member Database to make such a move pretty seamless. I tried to argue the point that they very well may release such databases due to the fact the the content in those databases technically belongs to Divorce Care and Support and it would not compromise the security of MSNGroups in any way to release them, and they would not be loosing anything either.

This way we could set up a Message Board and all that and incorporate all the databases. This way no information would be lost all the way back to the inception of this site and the move would be a lot smoother and less time consuming this way.

The problem with moving things to multiple areas such as the site you suggested is that if that site shuts down for any reason then all the information contained there is gone permanently with no means of retrieval.

However if everything were moved to one domain, such as the one purchased by and for DCS, all that information could be backed up in multiple ways and in multiple places if needed.

However some are completely dead set against a move unless MSN completely shuts down Groups altogether and by the time they announce such a closing it will be to late and all information may very well be lost anyway.

I tried hard to pose the win/win with such a move but some people are just to hard to convince.

Even if MSN Groups chooses not to the export the database it can be done. I've written more complicated parsers than this could manage.

Furthermore, it seems an insane argument to me, given that nobody actually asked. Until a manager makes a request, we can't know what MSN Groups response will be.

The backup issue shouldn't be an issue, as you noted backups are relatively easy to do.

Overall, I suspect I'll receive a similar cold response (if I receive one at all), but I can hope :D.

Ok..I've been following this thread with interest. MSN has been a disappointment to me personally for a while, now. I would love to see us move to a better site with more features than we have now...And while I don't have the expertise that you and SM have to judge what you've discussed on a nuts and bolts basis...It seems to me that what you propose could work well. Especially as far as moving the archives and linking to larger search engines...
Just wanted to let you know I was listening with an open mind.
