First off I think that one thing that is being missed here is that the divorcecaresupport.com domain was purchased not only for the chat room but the eventual move of DCS itself.
Also as to the copyright issue, I spent about 45 minutes on the phone with the copyright office over this issue and they assured me that it would not be a violation moving any of the posts or pictures since they will not be moving to "another website" they will still be on DCS and the only thing that will change is the point of presence.
Once everything is on divorcecaresupport.com and we have both the member database and message board database then both can be incorporated thus eliminating the need for two logins since when it is all completed, when you enter chat you will automatically be logged in under your current DCS nic.
As far as the simplicity of MSN groups, well thats really a non-issue since page building software such as an RTF Page Editor, which is what MSN Groups uses, can also be incorporated so that any manager can make necessary changes.
As far as the Domain being controlled by one person, that is also a non-issue since the Domain itself belongs to DCS.
Now if we wait until MSN decides that they will no longer provide groups, it is most likely that we will have less than couple of weeks after the notice. This is no where near enough time due the the amount of members and information that we currently have. Also In designing and implementing any website, it takes time to test everything and work out any possible bugs.
It took us three weeks, if I remember correctly, to get chat up to speed, and it contains only a fraction of the information that the entire DCS site itself has, so less than a month is not enough time for a move like this and trust me MSN wont give much time to move or back up anything after any notice.
